Energy company advertisements.

May 28, 2008

So how come there are alot more tv ads for energy companies. American Coal Coalition, Marathon Energy, and many others. I know there is a big gap in our national energy policy. Eventually we have to stop buying fuel from people who hate us. But what do these companies solve. No one is giving alternate fuels the time of day in government. I would love to run my car off of fuel derived from domestic coal at $2.00 a gallon. So bring the fuel to the pump, don’t just talk about it. So how is advertising to the little person going to help? Or is this just to calm the public after the nightly news tells us that we are going to run out of oil?

  1. Out where I live it’s PG&E that is blanketing us with ‘green’ adverts. It’s quite sickening to see the level to which they’ve bought into the myth of anthropogenic climate change. There’s no reason they need to advertise, it isn’t like we have any choice as to where our electrons come from..

The major problem with US Energy policy is that it’s being made by politicians and not scientists. With a majority of funding now coming from the gov’t, science in general is becoming more beholden to the holders of the strings, who have an interest in the results. Independent research should be encouraged first.

Fischer-Tropsch style coal oil could work, so could Thermal/Catalytic Depolymerization… but then again demand has dropped while prices are remaining at record levels. Something stinks here and it ain’t the methane.

  2. I do believe that global warming can become an issue. However it will not happen in our lifetimes. Also I believe that very little if any of the climate change is the result of humans. The climate has been changing for billions of years. Not 10,000 years ago the globe was covered with ice. Thats not that long ago in the whole scheme of things.

Where I live I have NO choice in who provides my electrons. But the need to advertise is still there somehow.

You are right, independent research is what is going to solve this problem. However once a new system is divised, how is it going to become mainstream? Hopefully the free market will dictate a move towards the better. I would rather not get the government involved.

By the way Twinspool, thank you for being the first person to comment on my blog.
