I recently signed up for a forum on the “Patriots for America” site. I agree with the ideas they have, however there seems to be very strong religious tones on that page. The following is my first forum post. I am really curious to see what replies I get. I will keep you posted.

I Just signed up for this social group. I am very much a conservative thinker when it comes to many social issues. I disagree with the bail-outs, the wall street welfare, social entitlement programs, gun control, and about 95% of our foreign policy as it now stands, and nationalized health care. But I seemed to notice a common theme here, and quite frankly feel as if someone with my views is not necessarily welcome. I am a registered Libertarian (or domestic terrorist depending on the memo you read). However I wouldn’t identify myself as a Christian. I am pro-choice, and not opposed to gay marriage. To me these issues seem to give the population MORE choices, rather than fewer. But that is a different discussion for a different time. So my question is this, and please answer as individuals or as a collective: are my kind welcome here? Is the religious issue more important than the systematic destruction of our Constitutional protections, or does the ability to prevail using logic and understanding of other peoples views in constructive manners apply to this group?

Please understand I do not mean to offend. However at times I find it difficult to speak politics, more often conservative politics with people who look down at their noses at “non-believers”. And often times I think this creates a significant hurdle when dealing with the opposition. I view American politics as an ever lasting game of one-up-manship. The Left decides their better than the Right because they have progressive ideas, and believe they are more apt to think outside the box. The Right believes their spiritual views make them the “chosen ones” and disregard the input from the Left. I am not saying were right, they’re wrong. I don’t want to imply the opposite either. I truly believe the one thing that both of the candidates for president got right in this election is the suggestion and promise that they need to reach across the aisle. I have yet to see it, and think it has a snowballs chance in hell of happening, but I agree with the theory.

The next 4 years.

As most of the world already knows Barack Obama has been elected as our new president. First off, let me say this; I am thrilled that we were able to see a minority elected to lead the free world. This shows that we aren’t the racist country that it seems the rest of the world would like to think we are. I wish him luck in his next four years. I also hope that everything he does is done with the best interest of the country in mind. I do believe however that we will be severely disappointed.

Obama has managed to put every dirty Chicago politician in his cabinet. He has the old Clinton regieme in his right hand. And while Pelosi seems so dislike him, she will eventually give in to his demands because it seems that all the Ultra-Left Wing knows how to do is tow the party line.

There have been talks of a “civilian security force”, tax cuts, and more social entitlement programs. Forget for a second that none of these can be accomplished with the other unless the federal government stops spending money like a coke whore who hit the powerball. It seems to me that these social programs represent “Change” that we don’t necessarily want. Why do we need another “security force” ? The local police handle day to day law enforcement. The federal government handles homeland security, and larger issues. And the military acts as our peace keepers abroad. What will the next security force do? I don’t know for sure what Obama meant in his speech when he mentioned a force “as well funded and equipped as our military,” but it seems to remind me a little bit of Germany in the 1930′s.

Remember this, as much as the liberals love to deny it, or minimize it. Obama and his vice president were “ready to rule” from the first day. And the scary part is this “ruler” studied under the teachings of Rev. Jeramiah Wright.

Thats funny, I don’t ever remember anybody “ruling” America. I guess Biden showed his true colors with that statement.

But hey, It’s all Bush’s fault.

These will be some interesting times.

Do you HABLA ?

So I am sitting at work the other day. This older Hispanic woman approaches my, she is trying to inquire as to the location of her relative. I am always more than willing to help a visitor along, but this particular woman really got under my skin. Her entire question was in Spanish. She did not even attempt to establish if I spoke her language, nor did she seem to understand why I could not follow what she was saying. Eventually we got a Spanish speaking employee to interpret for us and the issue was corrected. But that’s not what really got me thinking.

I am not opposed to people immigrating, nor do I have a dislike or distrust of people from other countries. However I have a passionate dislike, for those who refuse to assimilate to OUR country. We are a great nation, and we are a great nation because the people here made it that way. If others want to be a part of that I completely encourage it and appreciate it. But do not try to make my nation more like the one you left. They came here for a reason after all.

We are partially to blame. We are the ones who made it easier for this to happen. We need to stop letting people get away of it. Stop letting people talk to you in foreign languages, stop buying product with Spanish on the labels, and let the companies you do not patronize know why you will not give them your money. This is not to discourage people from immigrating, it’s to keep America the country that it is.

My DC vs. Heller opinion.

Today the Supreme Court came out with a decision regarding the DC vs. Heller arguments. I am not going to get into the 5 to 4 decision, nor am I going to go into the specifics of the case. I am going to assume that all of the readers here can Google the results for themselves. But I will say this; the battle has just begun. As you can probably tell by my other posts, I am a gun owner. And I am a proud gun owner. I am not an extremist, nor a militia member. Both things I have been accused of being. Not because I exhibit that behavior. I don’t cram my 2nd amendment views down people’s throats, nor do I even own 1 piece of camouflage clothing. I am accused of such things simply because I own guns.
Some of the forums I frequent bring up the topic of celebration. Questions like “what are you going to do to celebrate the SCOTUS decision.” Well here is my reply.

I don’t know if I am going to celebrate. What is the joy in having the most powerful court in the land affirm what we already knew? There should have been no question as to what the 2nd amendment means.

I will celebrate when the gun groups get together as a united front and through an education and political campaign make gun rights in this country what they should have been.

I will celebrate when I can say in public, or at work, that I am a gun owner and not have to explain myself.

I will celebrate when I do not have to worry about grown men and women with irrational fears taking away my rights.

And I will celebrate when my future kids can wear a t-shirt with a firearm reference to school and not get disciplined.

The fight is nowhere near over yet.

At work when we get a patient admitted I will read through the patient care report that the paramedcs write. And last night I think I found the most epic opening ever. The patient was a female who was drunk to the point of no return. The first sentence simply said “Patient was found on a party bus.” Just for a moment think about how great your night must have been up until that point. She was certainly having much more fun that the patient that was “Found spread over the hood of a GMC Yukon”.

It’s the simple things that keep me amused.

A little piece of me died yesterday…zero tolerance policies are a joke.

I was at the range the other day doing my civic duty and introducing two people to the finer parts of firearms. On my way out of the range to retrieve my ID and membership card I overheard a parent with his two sons. He had just taken them to rent a gun for one of his sons birthdays. They have just gotten finished with their instruction session. The father was going to buy a t-shirt with the ranges logo on the front. The shirt said “Scottsdale Gun Club” on the front and back. It did not have a picture of a firearm. When they were about to check out I heard the kid tell his father “You might as well not buy that, because I can not wear it to school, I will get suspended.” Then he said “I got in trouble just for talking about the range at school.”

I can not explain how bad I felt for this kid. I went to school in the same school district I think this kid did (although I don’t know for sure). And before Columbine I talked about shooting with people who shared the intrest. But after Columbine happened I had the same conversation, and then was promptly escorted to the principals office. I spent the better part of an hour while they attempted to ask me what kind of guns I had at home. Through the rest of my public school career I never spoke about firearms again, for fear of expulsion.

When did the leaders of the schools, and this country decide that simply talkng about shooting was a scary thing. In high school I shot USPSA and similar events, and looked at it as much as the same thing of high school football. But apparently it isn’t.

Exibition shooting was the most popular spectator sport in America before pro-sports were broadcast on TV. But when exactly did shooting become socially unacceptable? And I pose this question; what do we do to make it more socially acceptable?

After all, it’s for the children…

Energy company advertisements.

So how come there are alot more tv ads for energy companies. American Coal Coalition, Marathon Energy, and many others. I know there is a big gap in our national energy policy. Eventually we have to stop buying fuel from people who hate us. But what do these companies solve. No one is giving alternate fuels the time of day in government. I would love to run my car off of fuel derived from domestic coal at $2.00 a gallon. So bring the fuel to the pump, don’t just talk about it. So how is advertising to the little person going to help? Or is this just to calm the public after the nightly news tells us that we are going to run out of oil?
